Slow-Cooker Wassail

the ingredients for wassail

Ingredients

  • 1 Apple, Sliced
  • 1 Orange Sliced
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 10 Whole Cloves
  • 4 Star Anise
  • 1/4 cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 8 cups Apple Cider
  • 2 cups Orange Juice
  • 3/4 cup Pineapple Juice
  • 1/4 cup Lemon Juice

Wassail means “be in good health.” The act of wassailing was an English Yuletide and New Year’s Eve tradition where people went singing door-to-door, offering a drink from the wassail bowl to their friends and neighbors.

This classic drink recipe is made by mulling cider with orange, pineapple and lemon juices. It’s sweetened and spiced with brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, ginger and nutmeg.

Add the fruit slices, spices, sugar, juices and cider to the crockpot and stir to combine. Cook for 2 to 3 hours before serving hot mulled wassail in mugs and garnish with orange slices and cinnamon sticks.

Spicy Pomegranate Moscow Mule

the ingredients for a spicy pomegranate Moscow mule

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. Vodka
  • Juice from 2 Limes
  • Juice from 1 Small Grapefruit
  • Grapefruit Slices
  • 1 1/2 cups Pomegranate Juice
  • 1 Sliced Jalapeño
  • Ginger Beer
  • Pomegranate Arils
  • Fresh Mint

This festive, spicy take on an old classic has a holiday twist that will warm your bones on those cold, frosty nights.

Combine vodka, lime juice, grapefruit juice, pomegranate juice and jalapeños in a large pitcher. Stir to combine and chill for 2 hours. The longer the jalapeños sit, the spicier the drink! Strain out the jalapeños and discard. Return the drink to the pitcher and chill until ready to serve.

When ready to serve, fill the pitcher with ice and top off with ginger beer. Or fill glasses individually with the chilled, spicy mix and top each one off with ginger beer. Garnish with fresh pomegranate arils, sliced jalapeños, lime slices, fresh mint and grapefruit slices.
