The Story

Based in Carthage, IL, Memorial Hospital is a critical access hospital serving West Central Illinois and Southeast Iowa with 24/7 emergency care, surgical procedures, medical imaging, and community clinics. Memorial Hospital additionally has seven clinics throughout the region.

The Challenge

One clinic, Memorial Medical Clinic Locust Street in Carthage, specifically serves obstetrics and gynecology patients with services from Dr. Christopher Jones and Lila Brooks Fritz, CNM, CLC. In 2023, Memorial Hospital approached McDaniels Marketing to design a packet of print materials outlining clinic-based obstetrics services for expectant and new mothers.

The Solution

The printed inserts addressed numerous aspects of OB services at Memorial Medical Clinic, ranging from early pregnancy services ot health and safety for babies. The packet of 12 inserts comprehensively covered a wide range of health topics regarding mother and baby, including:

  • Prenatal visits
  • Diet and exercise
  • When to call a physician
  • Delivery
  • Preterm labor
  • Vaccinations
  • Breastfeeding
  • Newborn health
  • Directions
  • Provider contact information

This broad catalog of information positioned Memorial Hospital as compassionate experts in prenatal and postnatal care, pediatrics, and women's health services. Deliverables were packaged in one convenient, Memorial Hospital-branded folder and printed as color-coded, stepped inserts to allow mothers to access pertinent information quickly. The McD creatives used brand colors across the headline on each page, differentiating each topic from one another. The creatives also incorporated bright yet soothing photography representing each topic, along with bold, clear headlines to separate various points. Each insert included the hospital's contact information along with a custom QR code that drove readers to more information online. Packets were distributed to expectant mothers through OB physician offices and clinics.

The Results

Hospital officials reported patients were better informed thanks to easy-to-distribute content, which was made even more accessible thanks to the QR codes that led to additional information located on the hospital website. The hospital also reported compliments from staff, adding that providers liked the ease of use, ease of storing, and richness of information. The packet provided a much more professional look and feel to the information, whereas in the past, the patient would receive an assortment of unorganized papers in a generic folder.
